Impressive youngster Asisat Oshoala has been named player of the tournament at the just concluded Africa Women’s Championship in Windhoek, Namibia.
Oshoala, who netted three goals for Nigeria, inspired her side to a record seventh continental title sending them to next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada.
The 20-year-old, whose brace sealed a 2-1 semifinal victory against South Africa, has been instrumental for Nigeria who will be playing on the international stage for a record seventh time.
Oshoala also netted once as Nigeria routed Zambia 6-0 in a Group A encounter as well as creating several chances throughout the tournament that saw the Super Falcons amass 16 goals, conceding only thrice.
The new sensation who benched veteran Perpetua Nkwocha, the most decorated African female footballer, recently received the Golden Boot award at the Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada in August.
Meanwhile, goal scoring maestro Desire Oparanozie walked away with the Golden Boot award after scoring five goals for the Super Falcons, including a brace against Ivory Coast in a 4-2 victory in their opening Group A match.
Oparanozie also scored twice as Nigeria humiliated Zambia 6-0 in their last group match before opening the scoring in their 2-0 win against Cameroon in the final, en route to emerging as African champions.
The French-based forward has been influential in her side’s unbeaten run, orchestrating victories against their opposition to match their target before the tournament which was to emerge triumphant.
South Africa received the fair play award despite Banyana Banyana failing yet again to qualify for the Fifa Women’s World Cup.
