Bayelsa state faces disaster as and loss of life on Thursday July 9th as an oil pipeline belonging to Agip oil exploded.
The incident happened on Thursday during Joint investigation visit (JIV) to a
site of oil spillage along the tebidada-Azuzuama trunk line which resulted into
a huge fire explosion.
Report says that the victims of the explosion included workers of the National oil spillage
detection and respond agency (NOSDRA) representatives of Agip, department of
petroleum resource (DPR), Bayelsa state ministry of environment and other
security personnel and the host community members.
It was gathered that damaged point on the pipeline was being
repaired by members of the Joint Investigation Visit team, using welding
machines and other clamping equipments
when it exploded. Due to this sparkled off explosion, 10 persons were burnt
beyond recognition in the fire while 2 others who didn’t die in the fire
instantly gave up after a few minutes.
Report also says that 3 others survived the incident but
with lots of injuries, amongst the Three two were rushed to the Niger Delta
University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, close to Yenagoa, the states capital,
the remaining victim was take to another hospital whose named wasn’t unveiled.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Inuro Wills,
confirmed the incident and said a representative of the ministry on the JIV
team was missing. Filipo Catalini an Eni
spokesperson, the parent company of NAOC, reported in an email sent statement
that the cause of the fire explosion was being investigated.
The company expressed its deepest condolences to
the families of those involved in the vigorous tragic accident yesterday on a
statement. And also the Police PRO officer, Asinim Butswat , said the police
have received a report on the incident but the details were roughly laid out.
